Fat fat fat! So, there is a great misconception that fats in our bodies are bad.
Would all our weight loss problems be solved if we get rid of these fats in our bodies? Unfortunately, it’s not that easy. We actually need fats. Fats are an essential part of a healthy diet. They keep our skin soft provide us with important fatty acids and are a good source of energizing fuel.

Types of Fats
Fats are categorized into three forms.
1. Saturated Fats.
Most of us has heard that saturated fats are very unhealthy but researchers are still researching on this category of fats.
2. Monounsaturated Fats
Monosaturated fats are present in olive and canola oils and are linked with better health.
These types of fats are the only ones which we have to get from our diets and they come two forms.i.e. omega 3 and omega 6, both of them are important for our body.

So, we assume that the leading cause of obesity are the fats we consume. Actually, fats are only part of the problem. Obesity is not only overeating and consuming a single nutrient its much more than that. Eating more calories from fats, alcohol and carbohydrates then we burn leads to weight gain.

The most important brain building block is the Omega 3 fat called DHA, which is 10 percent of our brain excluding water. Since our bodies are not designed to make Omega 3 we have to get it from our food.
During pregnancy and while nursing most of the DHA comes from the women’s stored body fat, and that’s the reason women need to have more body fats than any other animal.
DOES AGE AND LIFE STAGE PLAY A ROLE IN THE CONSUMPTION OF FATS?
Consumption of Omega 3 in a large amount is important in all stages of life. Women who wants to conceive in the future should have diet high in Omega 3, to build up the DHA in their body fats, because that fat is necessary for women when they are pregnant or nursing.
There are some studies which show that Omega 3 helps muscles work better.
For older women Omega 3 helps in reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
For infants and children Omega 3 is necessary for their body ad brain development.

There is a great harmony between the Omega 3 fats and exercise. Women who work out more aim to have more Omega 3 in their blood, and the women with higher Omega 3 levels show better response to exercise. Increase in exercise and Omega 3 levels in women may also help them tend to lose excess weight.
